93 Norman is a 9-storey, 122-unit residential project located in the thriving Little Italy district of Ottawa. The client group and the design team made the decision to prioritize overall accessibility and a high quality of common amenity throughout the entire project.

This led to the development of extensive interior and exterior amenity spaces on the Ground floor, sixth floor terrace and the penthouse level, and establishing more robust circulation and access throughout the building. There was also an emphasis placed on alternative methods of transportation with the provision of a 1:1 ratio for bike storage spaces within the building, which married well with the building’s proximity to the Trillium Multi-Use Pathway system.

The project also qualified for The CMHC Accessibility Grant by exceeding both the Municipality of Ottawa and the Ontario Building Code accessibility standards. This meant that aside from the establishment of 15% barrier free units, additional suites meet the ‘Universal Design’ accessibility standard. This incorporates wider pathways of travel and entrances throughout the unit, as well as the design of completely accessible millwork, and appliance and fixture layouts.
